Cycling Laws

Familiarize yourself with your local and regional laws regarding e-bike riding, including speed limits, hand signals, accessory rules, and necessary safety equipment.

Bike Controls, Operating

Be completely familiar with the controls of your bike and how the electrical system works. Operating the controls incorrectly can lead to accidents, damage, injury, or death.

2. Before Each Ride

Check the condition of following items before each ride:

Tyre air pressure

The recommended tyre pressure is printed on the sidewall of the tyres. Do NOT go over or under the maximum and minimum tyre pressure.

More frequent air checks are suggested, especially in warm weather.

Tyres

Check the tyre for puncture, scratches, cuts, tread wear or damages of other kind.

Lights and Display

Check if lights and display turn on and off with no issue.

Brakes

Check levers, cables and make sure both front and rear brakes work. Ensure the brake levers are tight and do not have more than normal travel.  Proper lever distance to the grip during operation should be observed regularly.

Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of the bike. Refer to the specification table on the product page on the DiroDi website.

Make sure the bike frame size is the right fit for you, so you can control it when applying the brakes, standing over it, or taking turns.

Adherence to the bike's intended use

The bike is intended for normal use only and should not be used for events including but not limited to bicycle racing, bicycle motocross racing, stunt riding, jumping, or similar activities and training for such activities or events. Using the bike outside of its intended design could lead to damage, including but not limited to frame deformation or breakage, tyre bursts, wheel deformation or breakage, fork or handlebar damage or breakage, or the wheel coming off the dropouts, and could result in serious injury or death.

Adherence to local rules

As a rider, you are responsible for checking local laws and ensuring you are riding the bike in accordance with them. These laws can change over time, so it is essential to stay updated on the latest regulations. As of the time of writing this user guide, here are the main (but not limited to) rules in Australia:

1. The maximum legal continuous power is 250W for all states except NSW, where it is 500W. If you use a more powerful bike, such as 750W or 1000W, and limit it to 250W, it is still not considered road legal. Only our e-bikes advertised as 250W (or 500W for NSW customers only) are road legal in Australia.

2. The maximum legal assisted speed is 25 km/h. If the maximum speed of the bike is altered, the bike is considered non-road legal.

3. The maximum throttle speed is 6 km/h. If the bike is operated using the throttle, the maximum legal speed is 6 km/h. Therefore, the legal function of the throttle is to act as a start aid, such as when you have stopped on a hill and want to gain some momentum to start pedalling more easily. The throttle is not intended for riding the bike. If the bike's throttle is unlocked, it makes the bike non-road legal.

As these rules can change over time and as different states and localities may have varying regulations, please check the latest local laws before riding your bike.

Before Each Ride

    • WARNING: Keep hanging objects and passenger legs away from moving wheels, spokes, and the chain, as these can cause damage or injuries.
    • WARNING: Do not jump or perform any bike tricks that might lead to accidents. DiroDi does not hold responsibility for the consequences of reckless tricks for which the bike is not designed.
    • ATTENTION: Make sure you ride within the speed limit as per local laws. Follow other traffic rules as well. Use hand signals effectively.
    • ATTENTION: Be extra careful while riding on wet or icy surfaces, in rainy or snowy weather conditions, and on uneven or gravel tracks, as the bike could slip and cause damage or injury.
