Good battery care starts with the correct charger, a suitable charging place and the instructions for your exact bike. You do not need to open the battery or use complicated charging tricks.
This guide covers everyday charging, storage and the warning signs that mean you should stop using a battery.
Use the charger approved for your battery
Use the original charger or a replacement specifically approved for the exact battery, model and generation. A matching plug does not prove that voltage, current and wiring are correct.
Check the charger and cable for damage before connecting them. Follow the manual's connection sequence and keep the equipment dry. Ask DiroDi to confirm compatibility if a label or replacement part is unclear.
Charge while you are awake and present
Plan charging for a time when you can supervise it. Do not make unattended or overnight charging your routine. Disconnect according to the manufacturer's instructions when charging is complete.
Fire Rescue Victoria's battery guidance recommends using the supplied charging equipment and avoiding unattended charging. Follow that guidance together with the bike manual.
Choose a safe charging place
Use an appropriate non-combustible surface with clearance around the battery and charger. Keep charging equipment away from exits, escape routes and things that can catch fire. Keep the charger uncovered.
Do not charge on a bed, sofa or carpet. Check that the charging area has a working smoke alarm and that a lead will not create a trip hazard.
Avoid heat, moisture and impacts
Do not leave the battery in direct sun or a hot parked car. Follow the model's operating and storage temperature limits. Let a hot battery cool as instructed before charging.
Handle a removable battery carefully and secure it for transport. Protect the contacts using the prescribed covers and keep them away from loose metal objects. Do not use a battery that has been damaged in a fall or collision without appropriate assessment.
Follow the storage instructions
If the bike will not be used for a while, follow the battery's specified storage charge level and checking interval. These can vary between batteries, so avoid a universal percentage or calendar rule from another model.
Store it in the dry, suitable location described in the manual. Check it periodically rather than leaving it forgotten for months. Contact support if you cannot find the instructions for your battery.
Do not run it flat just to test the range
Learn battery use from ordinary shorter rides. Note the route, assistance level and display before and after. Leave a reserve for hills, wind, detours and the return trip.
Charging time depends on the battery, charger and starting charge. Use the correct charge indicators and instructions rather than assuming every e-bike needs the same number of hours.
Know when to stop using it
Stop using and charging a battery that is swollen, leaking, damaged, unusually hot or making unusual sounds or smells. Keep people away and follow the appropriate safety guidance. If there is smoke or fire, move to safety and call 000.
Do not open a pack, replace cells or improvise a repair. Contact DiroDi support or the seller with the model details, purchase record and a description of what happened. Our warranty and servicing guide explains the next steps.
