Electric Beach Bikes

There is a moment where the path runs out and the sand begins, and on a regular bike that is where the ride stops. On a fat tyre e-bike you just keep rolling. Our electric beach bikes for sale pair 4 inch fat tyres with 250W pedal-assist options, so you can cruise the foreshore, roll onto firm sand and ride home again without bogging down.

DiroDi Electric Bikes

Electric Beach Bikes, Built for Australia

DiroDi's fat tyre models, the Rover, Vivo and Voltz, are made for Australia's coastline: 4 inch tyres for soft sand and sandy foreshore paths, hydraulic disc brakes for steep beach ramps and car park descents, and pedal assist that takes the sting out of coastal headwinds. If you are after electric bikes for beach riding that also handle the trip there and back, this is the range to start with.

How to choose your beach e-bike

On the coast, three things matter: torque for the sand, a battery that copes with the extra effort, and the right tyres and frame.

Motor and power

In most Australian states, road-legal e-bikes are pedal-assist with a 250W motor that stops helping at 25 km/h, and on sand, torque matters more than top speed. The Rover's 250W motor delivers 60 Nm. Pick a higher assist level and a lower gear before rolling onto soft sand. Any throttle should be used as walk assist only, up to 6 km/h. Check your state's current rules before you ride.

Battery and range

Sand takes more effort than bitumen, so range drops. Plan on 40 to 80 km in real-world riding depending on surface, assist level, rider weight and wind, with the Rover averaging around 80 km on mixed riding. The removable battery charges indoors, away from salt air, while you are at home and awake.

Frame and fit

Run 4 inch tyres at the lower end of their recommended pressure on sand, never below the minimum printed on the sidewall. Front suspension on selected models (full suspension on the Rover Pro) smooths corrugated beach tracks, the Rover comes in step-over or step-through frames with an integrated rear rack, and fat tyre bikes weigh more, from 27 kg (Vivo Gen 2) to 47 kg (Rover Pro), which matters on beach stairs.

Essential urban security and safety

Rules on riding on the sand differ by council and state, so check local signage, keep off dunes and vegetation, and give way to people on foot. A well-fitted helmet is legally required in Australia, so pick one from our e-bike helmets range. Lock up at the surf club or beach car park with one of our e-bike locks, and never leave the bike unattended on the sand. DiroDi e-bikes are water-resistant for light-to-moderate rain only, so never ride through the shore break or standing water.

Beach e-bike FAQs

Can I ride an e-bike on the beach?

Often, yes, but it depends where. Rules for bikes on the sand vary by council and state, so check local signage, stay off dunes and vegetation, and give way to walkers.

Is an electric bike for beach riding different to a regular e-bike?

Mostly it comes down to the tyres. An electric bike for beach use runs 4 inch fat tyres that spread the load, so it floats over sand instead of sinking, and strong torque helps you through soft patches.

Will salt and sand damage my e-bike?

They can if ignored. After a beach ride, wipe the frame and chain with a damp cloth, re-lube the chain, never pressure-hose the motor, battery or display, and store the bike out of salt air.

Can I ride through the water or in the rain?

Rain yes, water no. DiroDi e-bikes are water-resistant for light-to-moderate rain but not waterproof, so never ride through the shore break, rock pools or standing water, and dry the bike off after a wet ride.

How far can I ride on sand?

Less than on a path. Sand takes more effort, so expect the lower end of 40 to 80 km depending on surface, assist level and wind. Charge fully before a big coastal day.
