How to choose your dual battery setup

Match the kit to your bike, then plan your charging.

Match the voltage

Choose the kit that matches your bike's main battery: the 52V Dual Battery Kit or the 48V Dual Battery Kit. The kits suit the Rover Gen 5 to Gen 6 and the Rover Pro. Not sure which battery your bike has? Send us your order number or a photo of the battery label and we will check.

What is in the kit

Each kit includes the external 20Ah lithium battery, a downtube battery base, a battery balancer module and a charger. Installation connects inline between your current battery and the controller, and step-by-step instructions are linked on each kit's product page.

Riding and the rules

For public-road riding, choose a compliant 250 W pedal-assist configuration with motor assistance cutting out at 25 km/h, and check your state's requirements. Battery voltage alone does not determine road legality, and higher-power versions are intended for private property use. A second battery adds weight, so allow for it when lifting the bike or storing it upstairs.

Essential security and safety

A well-fitted helmet is legally required in Australia, so start with our e-bike helmets. Add lights for dawn and dusk and bright clothing so drivers see you early. When you stop, secure the bike to something solid with one of our e-bike locks, and take the battery inside if you can. Light-to-moderate rain will not bother these bikes, but they are not waterproof.

Dual battery e-bike FAQs

Which DiroDi bikes can take a dual battery?

The Rover Gen 5 to Gen 6 and the Rover Pro. They accept the DiroDi Dual Battery Kit, which mounts an external battery on the downtube.

How much extra range does a second battery give?

The kit adds another 20Ah pack, roughly the same capacity again as the main Rover battery. Real-world range still depends on assist level, hills, wind and rider weight.

Do both batteries work at the same time?

Yes. The balancer module lets the bike draw from both batteries together until both are drained, so you do not need to swap anything mid-ride.

Can I install the dual battery kit myself?

Most handy riders can. The kit connects inline between the current battery and the controller, and installation guides for the Rover Gen 5 to Gen 6 and the Rover Pro are linked on the kit's product page. If you are unsure, call our team first.

Does a second battery make my bike faster?

No. It adds capacity, not power, so top speed and motor output stay the same. On public roads pedal assistance still cuts out at 25 km/h.

How long does it take to charge both batteries?

Each 20Ah battery takes around 10 hours to fully charge on its own charger, and the kit includes a charger for the external pack.
